Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - Adoption Laws Review.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

84 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health if he will review the present adoption laws in order to give adult adoptees a legal right to their birth certificates.

The question of changing the law to give adoptees a right of access to their birth records will fall to be considered in the context of proposals for the establishment of a national adoption contact register to assist adopted persons and their birth parents wishing to be put in touch with one another. My Department will shortly be meeting the Adoption Board to discuss those proposals and the need for changes in current legislation.
