65 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total rent and mortgage interest allowances paid by the Mid-Western Health Board for each of the years from 1990 to 1992; the estimated amount allocated for this purpose for 1993; the average amount of such payments; the total number of persons currently in receipt of payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

67 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the total rent and mortgage interest allowances paid by the Mid-Western Health Board for each of the years ended March 1990 to 1993; the average amount of such payments; the total number of persons currently in receipt of payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 34, 65 and 67 together.

Health boards do not maintain expenditure data in such a way as to provide the information requested by the Deputies. A statistical system which will allow health boards to provide detailed expenditure analysis in respect of the various elements of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme has been developed by my department in consultation with the boards. I hope to have full returns based on the new system later this year.
The allocations to health boards in respect of payments under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme are based on the most recent expenditure data in each health board area and are not broken down under the various components of the scheme.
