Vol. 430 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Income Levy Receipts.

Pat Cox

Ceist:

65 Mr. Cox asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details by sector of the percentage of the special income levy receipts that will be paid by the PAYE sector, farmers and self employed.

Assuming the enactment of this year's Finance Bill following is the information requested:

Income Levy 1993-94.

Sector

Percentage of total estimated yield to the Exchequer

%

PAYE

84.6

Farmers

1.9

Other non-PAYE

13.5

(1) The percentage figures given must be seen in the context of the relative numbers of taxpayers in each of the sectors mentioned.
(2) The figures for PAYE cover more than income levy on ordinary wages and salaries. They include levy payable by directors of close companies who are akin to the self-employed. They also include levy amounts payable under PAYE on the income from employment of farmers and other self-employed individuals.
