Written Answers. - Temporary Release Prisoners.

Ceist:

73 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the number of prisoners in respect of whom an early release order was signed by an official of her Department, between 10 and 16 March inclusive; and if she will give details of the nature of the offences they were convicted of, the length of sentence imposed, and the length of sentence served.

A total of 158 prisoners were granted temporary release between 10 and 16 March inclusive. The staff resources necessary to compile these statistics could not be justified, but I can say that the sentences ranged from five days to life. The five day sentence was for assault/wounding and the life sentences were for murder.
