Vol. 430 No. 7

Written Answers. - Structural Funds.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

81 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice if she will give the name of each organisation that submitted proposals or was consulted by her Department in relation to the preparation of plans to be submitted to the European Community for Structural Fund assistance; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Structural Fund assistance is provided mainly for the purpose of increasing output, economic potential and long term jobs. While it is true that unemployment is a matter which has a bearing on crime levels — particularly in certain disadvantaged urban areas — and is therefore a matter in which my Department has a direct interest, the question of seeking submissions or engaging in consultations concerning the provision of funds for employment creation initiatives is a matter primarily for other Departments.
