Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Fishing Licence.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

184 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be issued with a fishing licence.

In view of current European Community policy with regard to fleet capacity and the constraints imposed by that policy, sea fishing licences are only being approved where applicants undertake to remove tonnage and horsepower from the current sea fishing boat register of at least equal capacity to the tonnage and horsepower of the boat being proposed for introduction to the fleet.

The applicant in question has indicated that he is not in a position to remove the required tonnage and horsepower from the Register and until such time as he indicates that he is in a position to comply with the current replacement policy requirements his application for a sea fishing boat licence cannot be approved.
