31 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give an estimate of the numbers employed by multi-national companies in this country; and the way in which this compares with the situation ten years ago.
According to the annual employment surveys carried out by the IDA, Shannon Development and Údarás na Gaeltachta, approximately 95,000 people were employed in overseas firms in Ireland in the manufacturing and internationally traded services sectors in 1992. The corresponding figure for 1982 was approximately 91,000 people.
