Vol. 431 No. 2

Written Answers. - FCA Membership.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

16 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a letter from a group of women in County Wicklow, who have applied for membership of the FCA, expressing dissatisfaction at the delays in their induction into the force and who have now been prevented from attending basic training because they have not been sworn in;if so, his response to the points made in a letter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The letter referred to by the Deputy has been received in my Department and a reply in the matter is being issued.

It is anticipated that it will be possible to commence recruiting to the FCA including the 21st Infantry Battalion, Wicklow in mid-June, 1993. Applicants will be duly considered for enlistment subject to the existence of vacancies and subject to the standard requirements as to age, health and character.
