Vol. 431 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water Pollution.

John Bruton

Ceist:

60 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment the number of licences for the discharge of harmful substances into ground water supplies which have been sought, granted and refused; and if he has satisfied himself that no such discharges have taken place without a licence.

, Wexford): Applications for licences under the Water Pollution Acts for discharges to waters, including ground waters, and implementation of the statutory control regime provided under those Acts are the responsibility of the local authority concerned. These authorities maintain a register of licences granted. Details of the number of licences granted up to 1988 for discharges to waters are provided in Environment Bulletin No. 11 for the period January-June 1990; a copy of this publication is in the Dáil Library. Similar details for the years 1989 and 1990 will be published shortly.
