Vol. 431 No. 6

Written Answers. - Average Industrial Wage.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

38 Mr. Calley asked the Taoiseach the average industrial wage for men and women for each of the last five years.

The average gross earnings per hour, the average gross earnings per week and the hours worked per week for adult males and adult females in manufacturing industry are shown in the following table for June of the years 1987-92. The estimates are derived from the Quarterly Industrial Inquiry conducted by the Central Statistics Office.

The overall estimates for males and females reflect their different composition in terms of occupations and industries as well as variations in wage rates and overtime levels. The average earnings therefore do not represent earnings of comparable work.
