Ceist:80 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if a final decision has been made on the future of the Gweedore Peat Generating Station, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The ESB has been requested to continue operating the station until 1995 when the position will be finally reviewed. The age of the station, the cost of generating electricity at Gweedore and the reduction in peat supplies means that it is difficult to see a workable basis for its continued operation past 1995. The position will, however, be kept under review to assess whether there is any realistic alternative to its closure.
