Ceist:

49 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Health the cost to his Department and to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, of the Medical Council and ministerial inquiries into allegations against neurosurgeons at Beaumont Hospital.

Costs associated with the inquiries at Beaumont Hospital, referred to by the Deputy, are as follows:

Ministerial Inquiry

£250,368

Medical Council Inquiry (cost to date)

£83,818

These costs are being met from the hospital's approved revenue allocation.
The costs borne by my Department in relation to the ministerial inquiry amounted to £222,703.
The cost to the Medical Council of its inquiries are a matter for the Council to meet. I understand that the costs to date amount to £1.25m.
