Vol. 432 No. 6
122 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment if statistics are available on the number of road deaths and accidents which are caused by people who have consumed alcohol and people who have not.
There are no statistics showing the numbers of accidents and road deaths caused by people who had consumed alcohol. However, "Road Accident Facts Ireland 1992", published by the Environmental Research Unit of my Department, shows that 20 per cent of all accidents and 32 per cent of all deaths occurred between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., the hours most associated with drinking and driving. Copies of this publication are available in the Oireachtas Library.
