Ceist:76 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he supports the establishment of a motor insurance ombudsman; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In October 1992, the Irish Insurance Federation launched the Insurance Ombudsman of Ireland Service with specific powers and duties and Mrs. Paulyn Marrinan Quinn was appointed as Ombudsman.
For the information of the House may I add that while the service is funded by the insurance companies, the insurance Ombudsman reports to a council which is composed primarily of members from outside the insurance industry.
