Ceist:120 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the future prospects of schools whose applications for remedial teachers where unsuccessful.
Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching Posts.
The approval of further remedial posts in a particular year is governed by the teaching resources available in that year.
The programme for a Partnership Government made a specific commitment to the appointment of 500 additional remedial teachers by September 1996.
As a first step towards honouring this commitment, I have already announced the appointment of an additional 86 remedial teachers with effect from September 1993.
The needs of all schools, including those whose applications were unsuccessful on this occasion, will be considered as further teaching resources become available.
