Vol. 433 No. 2

Written Answers. - EC Single Market.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

113 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if there are any measures required to be taken in his remit of responsibility to comply with the terms of the Single Market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Administrative action will be taken shortly to bring into effect certain provisions of Council Directive 89/552/EC relating to television advertising. The Directive, in so far as it relates to my statutory responsibilities, is already largely transposed into Irish law through sections 4 and 8 of the Broadcasting Act, 1990, and Statutory Instrument Number 251 of 1991.

Council Directive 93/007/EEC of 15 March 1993 relates to the return of cultural objects unlawfully removed from the territory of a member state. This Directive will come into effect on 15 December 1993 and the question of transposition is present under consideration in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General.
Council Regulation (EEC) No. 3911/92 on the Export of Cultural Goods became effective on 1 April 1993 and I am considering what action, if any, may be necessary in this regard in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General.
