Ceist:48 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance if there are any measures required to be taken in his remit of responsibility to comply with the terms of the single market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Single Market.
In so far as Directives due for implementation are concerned, there are no legislative measures required to be taken within my area of responsibility. However, in regard to excise duties, we have not yet changed over from the present worts pre-fermentation basis of beer taxation to end-product taxation as the single market obliges us to do. However, it is intended that this change will be made on 1 October next.
As for Directives that enter into force in the future, I will take the necessary action at the appropriate time.
