Vol. 433 No. 2

Written Answers. - Maastricht Treaty.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

86 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the initiatives, if any, he will be taking, legislative or otherwise, to comply with the terms of the Maastricht Treaty; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In so far as the area under my responsibility is concerned, the primary obligation for bringing forward any proposals and initiatives to comply with the terms of the Maastricht Treaty rests with the Commission of the European Communities.

Any such proposals or initiatives will be discussed in the relevant Community fora, including if necessary in the Council of Ministers. The requisite steps will be taken to implement measures adopted.
