As the Deputy is aware I have made a second submission on behalf of the Government to the UK authorities in response to a Public Consultation being carried out by them on the proposed THORP Reprocessing plant at Sellafield.
In addition to detailing our opposition to the THORP plant on many grounds, I have again called on the UK authorities to hold a full, open and independent public inquiry to deal with all aspects of THORP. The UK Secretary of State for the Environment who has the discretion on the question of holding a hearing or inquiry will not take a final decision until he has considered all submissions.
I intend to ask the Attorney General what action, if any, may be possible if the situation arises.
