Vol. 434 No. 5

Written Answers. - Lecturer's Pay Claim.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

96 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, who is a lecturer in a regional technical college with an Honours Primary Degree and a Masters Degree and who fulfilled all the criteria necessary for an eligible part-time contract has not received his full pay for Christmas, Easter and summer holidays for the teaching year 1992-93.

At the time of the application referred to by the Deputy, Town of Tralee Vocational Education Committee was the statutory body entrusted with responsibility for managing Tralee Regional Technical College including all teaching appointments.

In October 1992 the vocational education committee advertised part time teaching hours to be filled. The candidate referred to by the Deputy made application and was subsequently allocated part time hours and paid at the appropriate rate.

The award of an eligible part-time contract for the academic year 1992-93 would also have been a matter for Town of Tralee V.E.C.
