Ceist:32 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, that has been made in the accelerating recruitment of gardaí, as promised in the Programme for Partnership Government, 1993 to 1997.

As I indicated in this House during the course of my contribution to the debate on the Private Member's Motion on 13 October, 1993, I have the matter of accelerated recruitment of Garda trainees under active consideration at the moment, and I hope to be able to make an announcement shortly about the matter.
