78 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will outline the measures for the muzzling of greyhounds at coursing meetings in view of the promise made by a Minister of State at his Department during the debate in June 1993, on the Wildlife Bill, 1993.
79 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when and where trials in coursing will take place using the newly designed muzzles.
80 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the dimensions and construction of the muzzles for coursing greyhounds as referred to in a recent debate.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 78, 79 and 80 together.
The phased introduction by the Irish Coursing Club, ICC, of the muzzling of greyhounds in enclosed coursing commenced at the start of the coursing season in September last on a trial basis. In the initial stage of the trials the greyhounds participating in the semi-finals and finals of all stakes were muzzled.
