Vol. 435 No. 4

Written Answers. - Copyright Law.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

38 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if Ireland's copyright law complies with European Community directives; if he has satisfied himself that there is a correct balance between the protection of copyright owners and users of copyright material; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Irish copyright law complies with the current requirements of EC Directives. However, changes in the law will be necessary to comply with the future effects of current and upcoming Directives. Changes in legislation will also arise from the review of copyright law announced earlier this year. The new legislation will have to ensure that there is a correct balance between the rights of owners and users.
