Vol. 435 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Airport Transport Link.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

70 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the options, if any, under consideration to improve public transport to Dublin Airport; the likely timescale for the desired option to be put in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the ongoing Dublin Transportation Initiative (DTI) process, optimal solutions for the traffic and transportation problems and requirements of all areas of Dublin are being developed. The possibility of a light rail link to Dublin Airport via Ballymun as well as the provision of a conventional rail link from Dublin Airport to the Dublin-Belfast railway line are referred to in the Interim Report of the DTI. These issues are being further evaluated at present and the outcome of this evaluation will be reflected in the final report of the DTI which is expected shortly. It would not be appropriate for me to pre-empt the final report of the Dublin Transportation Initiative in relation to specific transport options which may be recommended for the area.
