ESB meter readers are allowed the vouched travel expenses against their tax liabilities. Their tax-free allowances for a tax year include an amount equal to the actual expenses incurred in the previous year. An adjustment is made at the end of the tax year when the amount of the expenses for that year are known. As the meter readers are receiving all the allowances to which they are entitled no change is warranted.
