Vol. 435 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Lease of Hospital Lands.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

88 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland have been served with notice to quit from the lands attached to St. Lukes Hospital, Dublin, despite his written assurances that the hospital was committed to achieving a satisfactory solution in relation to the requirements of the CBSI; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that St. Luke's and St. Ann's Hospital Board has served a notice of termination on the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland in respect of the lease of a small portion of the hospital's lands at Sunbury Gardens.

The hospital has informed me that based on legal advice it was necessary to proceed in this way in order to protect its legal interest in the lands in question.

As the notice does not expire until the end of December 1993 I believe that there is ample opportunity for both sides to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement and my Department will do what it can towards this end.
