Vol. 435 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Written Answers. - Galway Water Charges.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

27 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a communication from the Galway Combined Residents Association in connection with the imposition of water charges; and if so, his response to the matters raised in that report.

I have received the copy of the communication from the GCRA on this matter which was enclosed with the Deputy's recent letter to me. Each local authority may decide, in its absolute discretion, whether charges for services in its area are to be levied or not, and the scale of any such charge. It is also the responsibility of the local authority to secure collection of charges due where they have not been waived on grounds of hardship.
