Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Development of Fishing Industry.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

186 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the importance of having adequate access to the fishing grounds in the Rockall area for the further development of our fishing industry; and the status of our fishing rights in that area.

I am very much aware of the importance of the fishing grounds in the Rockall area for the development of the fishing industry. These grounds offer considerable fishing opportunities covering a range of quota and non-quota species, including cod, haddock, monk and redfish. Irish boats have access to these waters and are entitled to catch quota species up to the limit of our quotas. In addition, there are no limitations on the catching of non-quota species in this area.
