Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Ellis

Ceist:

135 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay sheep premia for 1993 to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

Further investigations are necessary before the application under the 1993 sheep headage and ewe premium schemes by the person named can be processed further.

Ceist:

136 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay arrears of cattle premia and headage due to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

The person named lodged a combined application for grants under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme in respect of 40 cows and the 1992 cattle and equines headage scheme in respect of 40 cows and 28 cattle on 7 July 1992.

Under the terms and conditions of the suckler cow premium scheme the person named was required to maintain 40 cows or replacement in-calf heifers for six months from the date of lodgment of the application and under the terms and conditions of the cattle and equines headage scheme, he was required to maintain 40 cows and 28 cattle until any field inspection was carried out. At an inspection of the herd carried out on 5 January 1993 only 20 cows and 5 in-calf heifers were presented. A subsequent inspection was arranged as the herd-owner claimed to have the remaining cows on another farm but the applicant presented no further animals for inspection. Since my Department is not satisfied that the person named maintained the required number of cows for the six months retention period no grants under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme can be paid. A reduced grant will however be paid under the cattle and equines headage scheme.

137 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay arrears of sheep premia due to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

There is no record in my Department of any arrears being due to the person named under the sheep headage or ewe premium schemes. However, if the Deputy provides more details I will be glad to have the matter investigated further.

Ceist:

138 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay suckler premia due to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo.

The person named has been deemed ineligible for grants under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme as one of the animals listed on his application was found at inspection to be an in-calf heifer. Under EC Regulations governing the scheme he is also debarred from the 1993 suckler cow premium scheme.
