Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teacher.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

179 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the ongoing controversy in relation to the appointment of a full-time remedial teacher at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 7, she will meet a deputation of local Deputies and representatives of the management board and the parents association as soon as possible.

I am aware of the difficulties to which the Deputy refers. The issues in question were discussed at a recent meeting involving a senior member of my Department's inspectorate and representatives of the school in question.

The issues raised at that meeting have been noted by my Department and will be taken into account as part of an ongoing review of overall remedial allocations.

I would point out that the school in question has already been allocated two ex-quota teaching posts and that, in the context of the recent allocation of remedial posts, its level of remedial need was not deemed to be such as to warrant the allocation of a full-time remedial teacher to the school.

In the circumstances, I do not consider that the meeting requested would be useful.
