Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

193 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for Education whether she will consider extending eligibility under the third level grants scheme to persons who would otherwise qualify but for the fact that their parents do not reside in the relevant area.

Under the terms of the third level student support schemes the candidate's parents/guardians, or, in the case of an independent mature candidate, the candidate himself-herself, must be ordinarily resident in the administrative area of the local authority, or vocational education committee, as the case may be. However, local authorities and vocational education committees have discretion to waive this requirement in exceptional circumstances.
