196 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools and the number of second level schools in County Sligo awaiting radon mitigation; the names of the schools in question; the names of the various companies which have tendered to date to carry out the work; the amount of the tender in the case of each company; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
There are 24 primary schools and three post-primary schools in Sligo where mitigation work has been recommended by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland towards the elimination of radon gas from the schools. In the case of the primary schools two specialist firms have tendered for the projects. These firms have also been invited to tender for the three second level schools in question.
It would not be appropriate to identify the schools involved or to provide details in relation to the tenders received.
