Vol. 436 No. 1

Request to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Thank you, Sir, for allowing me to raise this matter under Standing Order 30. I move that the Dáil adjourn to ask the Taoiseach for an outline of contingency plans in the event of the British Government giving the go-ahead to the THORP nuclear installation which will be located approximately 60 miles from here and in the event of the British authorities not allowing the public inquiry demanded by this Government. Given that a decision on THORP is imminent this is a matter of urgency; yesterday was the deadline for THORP to be selected.

The Deputy must not go beyond the wording he submitted.

This is a matter of national interest.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. Accordingly, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
