Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Ceist:

144 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will examine the eligibility of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford for a suckler herd quota in view of the circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The relevant EC Regulations provide for suckler cow quotas to be based on the number of cows on which a producer was paid suckler cow premium in 1992.

The person named is not the registered herdowner of the herdnumber quoted. The person who is, however, was paid premium on 10 suckler cows under the 1992 Suckler Cow Scheme for Small Scale Milk Producers and has been granted a quota of 10 premium rights.

The EC Regulations also provide for the establishment of a National Reserve and a Special Reserve for the disadvantaged Areas for allocation to certain categories of producers. I will be announcing the criteria for the allocation of these reserves shortly and the person named can then submit a formal application along with supporting documentation for reserve quota to my Department at Michael Davitt House, Castlebar.
