Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Installation Aid Grant.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

154 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason an installation aid grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway in view of the fact that he is suitably qualified in all respects; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that if this person had been a part-time farmer on 1 January 1990, when the scheme was revised, he would have been deemed eligible; if his attention has been further drawn to the financial upheaval caused to this person because of his inability to meet an unusual condition of the scheme; his views on whether the main objective of the installation aid scheme is to encourage the early transfer of farms to well trained operators; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The applicant in this case was originally deemed ineligible for installation aid. I have, however, made arrangements to have his application re-examined under certain provisions of the revised scheme. I expect to be able to inform the Deputy of the outcome shortly.
