Ceist:41 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Marine if he will commission a study of the viability of the re-opening of Ballina Harbour, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The River Moy Commissioners are the governing body of Ballina port and are statutorily required to take all proper measures for the management, control and operation of Ballina port. The commissioning of a viability study of the re-opening of the port is a matter, in the first instance, for the commissioners. Any proposals by the commissioners in relation to a viability study would be considered by the Department.
