Vol. 436 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' Tax Concessions.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

80 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance whether the review of the eligibility conditions for disabled drivers has been completed; and whether, arising from this review, he will be introducing new regulations relaxing the conditions governing exemption from motor tax for disabled persons.

My Department has recently completed a comprehensive review of all aspects of the operation of the Disabled Drivers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1989, which provide significant tax concessions to certain categories of qualifying disabled persons with severe mobility problems. In accordance with a commitment I gave on Committee Stage of the Finance Bill, 1993, copies of the review were recently forwarded to the Opposition spokespersons for their consideration and comments. When I have received any such comments, I would hope to take decisions in the matter without delay.
