Vol. 436 No. 7

Written Answers. - Small County Enterprise Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

45 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total number of jobs created under the SCES in 1993; the cost per job; the extent by which he expects this to be improved by the county enterprise boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not possible to give the number of jobs created under the small and community enterprise scheme on an annual basis for a number of reasons. This scheme does not terminate until the end of the year and in any event there is inevitably a time lapse between the approval of a project and the creation of the jobs envisaged.

However, from the commencement of the small and community enterprise scheme in June 1992 to date, 1,014 projects involving a total of 1,823 full-time or part-time jobs have been approved. The average cost of each job is £2,742. The operations of the county enterprise boards which were established in September 1993 are the responsibility of the Minister for Enterprise and Employment.
