Vol. 436 No. 7

Written Answers. - N84 Road Improvements.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

138 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application in respect of grant aid from Galway County Council for £300,000 for work on a section of road from Headford and Shrule, County Mayo, which is a national secondary road; the reason no funds were made available in 1993 for this particular road; if he will have the application considered for funds in 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An indicative list of road proposals for 1993, drawn up by Galway County Council, included reference to a sum of £300,000 in respect of land acquisition costs relating to the N84. As indicated in the reply to Question No. 53 on 9 November 1993, no proposals for the improvement of this section of road have been submitted to my Department by the council. In the circumstances, it would be premature to consider the question of providing funds for land acquisition. The position in relation to the availability of funds in 1994 is as set out in the reply to the question referred to.
