Vol. 437 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cork Hospital Facilities.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

166 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Health when work on the new clean air operating theatre in St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cork, will commence; if his attention has been drawn to any difficulties concerning the present facilities at the hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Work on the new clean air theatre facilities at St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Gurranebraher commenced on 11 October 1993. As I outlined in my reply of 16 November 1993 (Volume 435, No. 9, pages 1516-17), the orthopaedic surgeons indicated to the hospital management team in early October that the theatres at the hospital would have to close following the commencement of building work due to the increased risk of infection. A temporary ventilation system has since been installed in the theatres and I understand that some surgery has now resumed at the hospital.
