Vol. 437 No. 2

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

193 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if, in view of correspondence (details supplied), which she has now received from the Board of Management and Parents Council of Cloyne national school, Cloyne, County Cork, she will meet with a deputation from the school to discuss an application for a remedial teacher.

I am aware of the case made by the school in question in support of its application for a remedial teacher. The issues involved were discussed at a recent meeting between representatives of the school and senior officials of my Department.

The case made by the school has been noted by my Department and will be fully taken into account in the context of any further allocation of remedial posts.

I would point out that the school in question already has a remedial teaching service on a shared basis and that, in the context of the recent allocation of remedial posts, its level of remedial need was not considered to be such as to warrant an additional allocation.

In these circumstances, I do not consider that the meeting requested would be useful.
