Ceist:71 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to provide additional prison space in 1994.
Written Answers. - Prison Accommodation.
As I indicated in my replies to Questions Nos. 44, 58 and 80 on 25 November 1993, I have been conducting a comprehensive review of prisons strategy and requirements which involves, inter alia, an examination of the need for an expansion of custodial accommodation. Arising from my review, I propose to provide a total of 210 additional cell spaces.
Detailed planning and design work will commence immediately and it is intended to commence construction later in 1994.
