Vol. 437 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

86 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Finance the action, if any, that is being taken following the rejection of the Government's National Development Plan, 1994-1999 by the EU Commission.

There is no substance to the claim that the National Development Plan has been rejected by the EC Commission. Following submission of the Plan to the EC Commission, the Government's proposals are being discussed between Irish Government and EC Commission officials with a view to negotiating the Community Support Framework.

It was suggested by another Deputy last week that the EC Commission had rejected the Plan as not complying with the environmental requirements of the regulations governing the EC Structural Funds. These environmental requirements have been complied with in a separate chapter entitled "Environmental Situation" in the Plan.
