99 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the percentage of prisoners, at any given time, that would have served time previously; the percentage of prisoners that would be convicted for the same category or similar offences; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The precise information sought by the Deputy in regard to recidivism among prisoners is not readily available and could not be obtained by my Department without an inordinate expenditure of staff time. However, the information which would be relevant to the Deputy is available in the prisons' annual report.
