Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

452 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will allocate a suckler cow quota to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick in view of the fact that this person was refused this in 1992, and subsequently in 1993, as at that time the deadline was not adhered to and financial hardship has been imposed on this person as this is his only source of farm income.

The relevant EU Regulations provided for suckler cow quota to be based on the number of cows on which a producer was paid the premium under the 1992 suckler cow premium scheme. The final closing date for receipt of applications under the 1992 scheme was 7 January 1993. As the person named did not submit an application until 28 January 1993 he was not eligible under the 1992 scheme and does not therefore automatically qualify for a suckler cow quota. He may apply for quota from the national reserve and an application form to enable him to do so will issue to him shortly. He has applied for 24 cows under the 1993 suckler cow scheme and he will receive payment in due course based on whatever quota allocation is made to him from the national reserve.
