Ceist:470 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the present position regarding the registration of knackers within the State; and if he proposes to introduce regulations in the near future.

Part III of the Abattoirs Act, 1988, makes provision for the control and licensing of knackeries. That part of the Act has not yet been commenced but it will, it is expected, be introduced later this year as part of comprehensive regulations in relation to all aspects of disposal of animal waste.
