There are currently 503 pupils enrolled in Navan Community College for the school year 1993-94. Non-capital funds are allocated to Vocational Education Committees on a scheme basis. Accordingly, information in relation to the annual running costs for individual vocational education committee schools is not available in the Department. The original capital cost of the building of this school was £2,180,765.
As I previously indicated in my response to Parliamentary Question 237 of 7 December 1993, County Meath vocational education committee are responsible, in the first instance, for ensuring that the interests of the staff and students at the college are protected. It is understood from County Meath vocational education committee that the North Eastern Health Board have forwarded a report on the problems arising from unauthorised temporary dwellings in the vicinity of the school to Meath County Council who are the Statutory Authority with responsibility for public health nuisances. I have asked to be kept informed of any developments in the situation.
