Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Selection Procedure.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

575 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education arising from her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 177 on 14 December 1993, the outcome of her inquiries into the particular case referred to.

It has not been possible in the interim since my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 177 on 14 December 1993 to have the case referred to by the Deputy examined fully in the context of Circular Letter M 51/93 relating to Selection Procedures for the enrolment of pupils in Second-Level Schools.

It has, however been established through inquiries made by the Planning Section of my Department from the Authorities of the Second-Level school in question that the selection procedures for the enrolment of pupils to that school are not based on pupils academic ability or on socio-economic grounds.

I will arrange to have this case examined in more detail as soon as possible.
