Vol. 437 No. 6

Written Answers. - Student's Tuition.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

585 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education the reason extra tuition recommended by the visiting teacher over a year ago and approved by her Department for a person (details supplied) in County Galway has not yet come to fruition; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is not correct to suggest that the additional tuition approved by my Department for the person mentioned has not come to fruition.

The actual position is that to-date, the approved and increased level of tuition has been provided on a weekly basis, with the sole exception that, on one week in every six, the visiting teacher concerned has found it necessary to give priority to other pupils.

In order to address this limited gap in service, it has been decided to re-arrange the work load of the visiting teacher concerned so as to ensure that the child mentioned by the Deputy receives the service on an unbroken weekly basis.
