Ceist:

59 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if a firm commitment has been given that a Regional Technical College facility will be provided in Castlebar, County Mayo, in the shortest possible time and that first and second year courses will commence in 1994, as reported in the Western People on 6 October 1993; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

At a meeting between officials of my Department and County Mayo Vocational Education Committee yesterday it was indicated that two-year national certificate programmes will be provided in Castlebar. My Department is now initiating a process of consideration of proposals formally put forward at that meeting. A detailed planning process is now being initiated.
